Night Patio
It would be nice if this had a better title. It’s not really a patio, is it? No. But it is patio furniture. It’s just a spot where you can relax, or try to relax wedged in between the buildings on 57th street (or thereabouts). It’s not a garden. During the day – the waterfall in the back drowns out the city sounds – and it is a nice place to retreat to. Oh, who knows or cares when this was shot. But it was during one of those phases when I would prowl around the city at night.
Of course this place was locked up and I took the shot between bars of a gate – otherwise, you wouldn’t have any chairs left in the morning.
Anyway – I continue to add new and old shots to the store… that’s mostly what I’ve been working on the last few days.
Love the ethereal quality of the blown out highlights in this one!

Yup. I specialize in blown out highlights
I could have burned them in easily – but I think they make the shot. db

Dave – this is a “vest-pocket” park built in the early- or mid-70’s on 51st Street between 3rd and 2nd. From 1975 to 1983, I was lucky enough to work at the former GE Building (now Tower 570) at 51st and Lex. On a spring or summer day, I often went to this place to eat lunch or just sit and listen to the waterfall.
There is another, smaller vest-pocket park on 53rd between 5th and Madison.
I loved them, because they’re so unexpected to the uninitiated – you’re walking along a busy NYC street and all of a sudden, there is this little, quiet oasis.
