Sea Lions

But these guys are the stars of the show. Most relaxing thing to sit on the steps and watch them cavorting. Even without a trainer, they’d pop out of the water once in a while and wave with a flipper.

  1. Are these actual photos taken with a non-wide angle lens? Dare I say, telephoto? Unless you had some unparalleled access to be on some like trainer platform, right above the water, to be this close to have your trusty ol’ 30mm or 50mm on.

  2. Well, I’d love to make up a good story, but I confess to having a 300mm Canon Zoom with IS. (Not one of the expensive ones, it’s 4.5/5.6, but very good nonetheless).

These were from about 5 feet away at 130mm /f8 1/500 asa 800. Compared to other shooting I do – this was like shooting fish in a barrel.
